JÁLO FIRES YOUNG REDS INTO FOURTH ROUND

The U18s secure safe passage into round four of this season's FA Youth Cup

1 December 2023

In a highly-competitive fixture with Lincoln City played in the blistering cold of Oakwell on Friday night, Nicky Eaden's side won through after extra time!

An extra time scorcher in freezing conditions from Fábio Jaló ensured the U18s' run in this year's FA Youth Cup would continue.

The Portuguese youngster - who turned 18 last month - had the game's first shot after showing great strength and neat footwork to forge an opening from a tight angle but his venomous strike was turned around his near post by Imps goalkeeper, Isaac Allen.

At the other end, Rogan Ravenhill had to be sharp low down to deny Lincoln City's centre forward Bailey Adamson who had escaped his marker inside the box.

There was little between the sides and each crunching tackle in sub-zero temperatures raised a cheer from the few hundred supporters who'd come to cheer on Nicky Eaden's team from their West Stand vantage point.

But despite that backing, there was to be no breakthrough as we headed into the break waiting for the game to spark into life.

HALF TIME: Barnsley 0-0 Lincoln City

Early in the second half, Jaló was at it again, this time bending a trademark effort towards the top corner that was well-claimed by Allen in the Imps' goal.

But it was his strike partner, Emmaisa Nzondo who would grab the opening goal of the contest as he capitalised on a defensive mix-up to rob the 'keeper and fire home into an empty net.

Unfortunately, that lead didn't last long as Lincoln were awarded a penalty when Kieran Graham was deemed to have felled Zane Okoro inside the box, allowing Adamson to fire home a wonderfully-taken spot kick high into the top right-hand corner of Ravenhill's goal.

Jaló sent a superb effort just inches over the bar as the Reds looked to respond to the game being levelled up, whilst he then went just as close with a curling free-kick as the game ticked towards full time.

However, the visitors could have won the tie at the last but Ravenhill spread himself brilliantly one-on-one to thwart Okoro from 10 yards out.

FULL TIME: Barnsley 1-1 Lincoln City

The Reds could have edged ahead in the first period of extra time but Allen produced a fine save - one-handed - to deny Nzondo a second goal.

Into the second half of the extra 30 minutes and Barnsley finally found the crucial goal, and of course, it was Jaló who provided it. He beat a number of men in midfield before unleashing an effort from 25 yards that kissed the inside of the post as it made its way into the net.
