FÁBIO JALÓ ON CURRENT CAMPAIGN AND PORTUGAL CALL-UP

2 December 2023

The Reds youngster spoke exclusively to iFollow Barnsley after his recent international appearances and first-team recognition under Neill Collins.

The 18-year-old is loving life at Oakwell, been given the opportunity to show his Portuguese flamboyance under Neill Collins and representing his nation at U19 level.

Jaló has already made six first team appearances for the Reds first team this campaign and has featured in the last five squads when available for selection.

A big part of this integration of youth into the first team setup is Reds boss Collins, who has already handed 20 debuts so far this campaign, and relays a simple message to Fáb before everytime he steps on the pitch.

"I just take everything he says to me, I just have to enjoy every opportunity I'm on the pitch," he opened. "Whether that's training pitch or match pitch, I just have to enjoy it.

"It's just quite simple. Go out there and enjoy it just like you do in training and for the 21s and 18s. Just do the same thing and enjoy it out there."

The attacker recently relished another international break with Portugal U19s, playing three games as part of a training camp in Belfast.

Jaló was on target twice in Northern Ireland and revelled in the opportunity to play with his friends from home once again in a different system.

"It was another great experience. I enjoyed it with my friends again, to see them again after a couple of months. It was good.

"I can adapt easily to any formation in any position that I'm playing, so I think that's a positive.

Fáb wasn't the only member of our academy to represent their nation in November, with Josiah Dyer flying out to Montserrat and Jon Russell, Devante Cole and Callum Styles also making their mark on the international scene recently.

Jaló believes the recognition of these players is testament to the good work happening at Oakwell.

"That means the Club are doing well and the players are doing well. It's good to represent the Club."
