LUCA CONNELL PREVIEWS VISIT OF STEVENAGE

21 December 2023

Luca Connell answered questions from the media ahead of the Reds' clash with Stevenage on Saturday at Oakwell.

ON HIS HEALTH

"I'm good! Much better than the last time we spoke. I'm just glad to be back playing again. Feeling healthy again, that's the main thing. The last month has been really good getting back going again. The few before were just draining. Every day doing the same thing once you're so used to being fit and physical everyday, to go to that was the complete opposite."

ON RECOVERY

"As soon as I came back in, the doctor was good with me, Vikki the physio, they just took it time by time. The gaffer was good with me, they didn't rush me back. He was calling me all the time making sure I was OK. There were times where I was coming in just walking around the pitch watching the lads train and I'd go home and be feeling the effects of it, because I'd literally been on the couch for literally three-and-a half months. I think it was just trusting in the process of the medical team and letting them gradually build me up. They've done a good job and I feel great."

ON FESTIVE PERIOD

"I think I've maybe played three full ninety minutes now so that's just got me ready in the perfect time for December. I think you can see the strength in depth of our squad. The gaffer makes four or five subs every game. I hope I play and I'll be ready for that when it comes."

ON STEVENAGE

"You'd play any way you could to be sitting third in the table coming up to Christmas, so fair play to them. We're preparing for both sides of it. If they're going to play through then we'll get after them and if it's coming long we'll be ready to battle first and second balls."
