Charlie Winfield sat down to speak with iFollow Barnsley after making his Reds debut on Tuesday night.
Tranmere Rovers were the visitors to Oakwell in the Carabao Cup midweek, with Neill Collins putting his faith in our young Reds in the opening round of the competition.
Winfield started the game at left wing-back and played the whole duration of the game to join the Alumni having been at Oakwell for ten years.
"Disappointing to not come away with a result, but personally it's a massive achievement for me," he described. "I've had a difficult journey I think so far, so to finally make my debut, it's a proud moment."
The game came as a significant milestone in the 21-year-old's comeback from an ACL injury, playing the full match in a first-team game.
Winfield began to feel the physical effects of such demands but was inspired mentally by the occasion to keep going.
"Yeah, definitely. Especially with it being the 98th minute, I had all sorts of cramps and pains. When you're in a cup and it's a knockout, you've just to keep going."
