SPECIAL GUESTS CONFIRMED FOR WOMEN'S CLASH

23 August 2023

A bumper day is planned at Oakwell as our Women's Team make history on Sunday 3 September!

Our Women's Team will be taking on Alnwick Town Ladies in a 2pm kick-off at the start of September in the first game of the campaign in the North East Regional Women's Football League!

A day for all the family will be in store, with our FanZone, OZone and Copier Systems Legends Suite all open for fans to enjoy ahead of kick-off!

Dorothy Hyman, Callum Simpson, Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Jon Stead will all be in attendance for the fixture and featuring in the above areas - showing their support for our Women's side!

Hyman, a renowned British athlete, remains an icon in the world of track and field. Born in Cudworth in 1941, Hyman's exceptional sprinting abilities led her to numerous victories on the international stage during the 1960s.

                 

She represented the United Kingdom in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, earning medals and accolades for her remarkable speed and determination. Hyman's dedication to her sport and her impressive achievements continue to inspire athletes and fans alike, cementing her legacy as a true British sporting hero.

Brunt, a prominent English cricketer, stands as a shining star in the world of women's cricket. Born in Barnsley, Brunt's exceptional skills as a fast bowler and all-rounder have made her a pivotal figure in the England women's cricket team. With a career spanning over a decade, she has played a significant role in multiple victories for her team, including Ashes triumphs and ICC tournament successes.

Beyond her impressive on-field performances, Brunt's passion for the game and her dedication to pushing the boundaries of women's cricket have helped elevate the sport's profile globally. Her contributions to the game continue to inspire young cricketers and pave the way for greater recognition and opportunities for women in cricket.

A Barnsley-born boxer, Simpson is an exciting talent in the super middleweight who has an unbeaten record since turning professional in 2019.

Simpson is an avid supporter of the Reds, often seen at Oakwell backing the team and next fights on Saturday 30 September at York Hall, London against Germaine Brown.

Stead had a successful career spanning various levels of English football. With stints at clubs like Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers, and Notts County, he showcased his scoring prowess and footballing intelligence. Known for his versatility and commitment on the pitch, Stead's contributions have earned him a place in the hearts of fans and a reputation as a reliable and hardworking player.

His dedication to the sport and his positive attitude continue to make him a respected figure both on and off the field and is now the current Assistant Coach with the Men's First Team.

Our FanZone will be in operation outside of our East Stand, providing live music, food vendors, outdoor bars and Reds discussion!

Barnsley FC Community Trust will be supporting the pre-match activities, engaging the community through sporting activities, resources and an experience for those that attend, showcasing achievements, talents, and looking to inspire the people of the Barnsley community.

It is a great opportunity to celebrate and promote inclusivity and participation for all, advertising the programmes that we deliver. The day itself will also provide opportunities for people to connect, learn and participate.

Be sure to join us at Oakwell on Sunday 3 September! All 23/24 ST Holders are able to enter the game for FREE with a claimed reserved ticket which can be redeemed online or at the Box Office!

Other tickets are available to purchase for £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.
