The Reds youngster receives recognition from the EFL ahead of prestigious awards ceremony on April 23.
Fabio Jalo has been nominated for the EFL League One Apprentice of the Season, sponsored by LFE.
Making 12 appearances for Michael Duff's side so far, this campaign has been one of real breakthroughs for the 17-year-old.
His Barnsley debut came in a dramatic EFL Cup victory against Middlesborough back in August 2022, becoming the sixth youngest player to ever feature for the Reds.
A couple more appearances followed for Fabio in the opening Papa John's Trophy group games, before scoring his first Barnsley goals in a 4-2 victory against Doncaster Rovers in the final group game - winning the Club's October Goal of the Month competition in the process.
In total, our young attacker has featured 12 times for the First Team so far this season whilst helping our U18s to PDL play-off success and playing a part for the U21s under Tom Harban.
His fantastic performances caught the attention of international suitors, with Jalo joining Portugal U18s on two occasions and scoring his first goal in a friendly against Austria U18s in March.
Bobby Hassell, Academy Manager at Barnsley FC, commented on the news: "We're extremely proud of Fabio's achievements so far this season. To feature the amount he has for the First Team and internationally for Portugal is testament to his ability and the hard work of the Academy staff here at the Club.
"It's important to stress that this award does not just recognise on-field accomplishments - it's about the education side of it also. Fabio has done really well on that front. English isn't his first language, so we're really pleased with how he's applied himself to improve on and off the pitch."
