VOTE FOR YOUR GOAL OF THE SEASON

26 April 2023

There have been so many incredible goals scored by the Reds this campaign that it has been virtually impossible to whittle down the contenders for our annual Goal of the Season award.

But whittle them down we have.

In the interest of fairness, no player has more than one goal as an entry and none are from the same game, so watch our video and vote for your favourite goal of what has been a memorable term for Michael Duff’s side.

GOAL A – ZIYAD LARKECHE v NEWCASTLE UNITED U21S
A strike of real quality from the Frenchman, who introduced himself to the Oakwell faithful on his debut by curling a wonderful free-kick into the far top corner, leaving Magpies goalkeeper Jude Smith clawing at thin air.

GOAL B – JOSH BENSON v CHARLTON ATHLETIC
One of our standout performers in the opening stages of the campaign, the 23-year-old had developed a keen eye for goal and almost took the pegs out with this magnificent effort from 35-yards that whistled home.

GOAL C – ADAM PHILLIPS v BOLTON WANDERERS
Having arrived at Oakwell with a reputation as a goal scoring midfielder, Phillips had gone 10 games without finding the net before opening his Reds account with a sublime half-volley from distance to double our lead in the Emirates FA Cup.

GOAL D – LUCA CONNELL v PETERBOROUGH UNITED
With just 11 minutes on the clock at London Road, Tom Edwards’ long throw-in was half-cleared only as far as our diminutive midfielder, who chested it down and zipped a stunning low drive into the bottom corner to bag his first Barnsley goal.

GOAL E – JAMES NORWOOD v ACCRINGTON STANLEY
The game was barely five minutes old before Norwood rolled back the years with a fabulous overhead kick, acrobatically putting the Reds ahead to put us on our way to three crucial points and begin our nine-match winning streak at Oakwell.

GOAL F – JORDAN WILLIAMS v CAMBRIDGE UNITED
Down to 10-men following Max Watters’ dismissal – and also a goal to the good through the same player – Williams dispatched a superb volley as the ball dropped out of the sky to slam into the bottom corner from range and seal a priceless victory.

GOAL G – HERBIE KANE v CHELTENHAM TOWN
There were so many fantastic goals in this encounter, but this effort from Kane was simply brilliant as he struck a sweet volley with his weaker left foot that rasped into the top corner from the edge of the box.

GOAL H – NICKY CADDEN v PORTSMOUTH
The flying Scotsman had opened his Reds account a month earlier at Oxford United, but this was an absolute pearler as he cut in from the right before whipping a delightful strike into the far corner to double our lead. Curl it like Cadden.

GOAL I – LIAM KITCHING v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Perhaps not the most spectacular, but certainly the most iconic. Holding a slender one-goal advantage in the South Yorkshire derby, the Reds broke at pace and Luke Thomas squared for our onrushing defender to slot home and spark wild celebrations inside Oakwell.

GOAL J – DEVANTE COLE v MORECAMBE
A beautiful team goal – one of many from the Reds over the course of this campaign – Williams played a slide-rule ball through the legs of a Shrimps defender before Kane produced a deft stepover for Cole to finish with aplomb.
