MICHAEL DUFF ON EMPHATIC VICTORY OVER MORECAMBE

2 April 2023

Our Head Coach spoke to iFollow Barnsley after his side defeated Morecambe 5-0 at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon in Sky Bet League One.

Devante Cole scored his first goal of the game inside five minutes, tapping in from a rebounded Luca Connell free-kick.

Dynel Simeu turned into his own goal on 21 minutes, preventing Max Watters from converting a teasing Jordan Williams delivery.

Herbie Kane made it three just after the half-hour mark, slotting home from inside the area after Mads Andersen worked the ball well on the right.

Cole got his second of the game, following an intricate team move on the edge of the area found the number 44 who made no mistake in the box.

Bobby Thomas rounded off the afternoon with a header from a Josh Benson corner delivery to make it seven home league wins on the bounce.

Duff was full of praise for his side, especially as a reaction to the disappointing defeat at Exeter in midweek.

"We wanted a positve reaction," he stated. "We got one. Scoring in the first minute and the last minute bookended a really good performance. Good goals, set-play goals. Really, really pleasing."

Cole scored his 14th of the campaign, leading the line alongside Max Watters for the majority of the match.

The coaching staff have been keen to get the 27-year-old in better scoring positions to add to his game.

"He's been good all season. He's adding numbers to his name. It's disappointing, we've been told that his third goal was onside. But, they're centre-forward goals as well. We know that he can do his dribbling and all that sort of stuff. We've been trying to get him to score more tap-ins."
