FARRELL TARGETING MORE GOALS FOR U18S

18 September 2022

After scoring his first goal of the season in his side’s 5-2 triumph over Queens Park Rangers, a delighted Leo Farrell spoke about how pleased he was with his input off the bench.

The striker’s goal came in the 89th minute, topping off a delightful display from our young side.

“It was an unbelievable feeling,” beamed Farrell. “Starting on the bench was a struggle, but when I came on and got the goal it gave me some confidence. My aim was to help the team out and I think I did that. It was brilliant to get off the mark.”

An end-to-end first 45 was preceded by a largely dominant second half showing from Barnsley, who romped to a well-deserved victory over the Hoops.

Rafael Monteiro’s early strike was added to after the break by Fabio Jalo and a double from Josiah Dyer before Farrell completed the scoring to seal the points.

“I thought we had some good spells in the first half,” continued the young forward. “We kept the ball well at times, but I felt we gave them too much respect.

“In the second half we had some really good passages. We had a great spell when we scored a few goals and killed the game off. I thought we held out really well.”

Farrell was quick to praise his side’s sustained work rate and ability to overcome adversity.

All four of Barnsley’s second half goals were scored by forwards, though the talent on display was visible from every man on the pitch as Hayden Pickard registered three assists, while Rogan Ravenhill made his second penalty save of the campaign.

Now, the youngster is aiming to stake a claim for the starting XI after his goal scoring cameo from the bench.

“There were some great individual performances,” insisted Farrell. “Rogan made a big penalty save which I felt gave us the confidence to put the game to bed.

“I’m looking to start every game and my aim is to push Josiah. He’s scoring a lot of goals at the moment, and I enjoy working with him; hopefully we can push each other on and improve each other’s performances.”
