MICHAEL DUFF PREVIEWS OWLS TRIP

1 September 2022

Ahead of our South Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday, Michael Duff faced the press to preview the match.

ON JOSH MARTIN

"He's been on the list a long time. When I came into the Club he was on the list, the way the Club is run; they do a lot of things off data, he ticks a lot of boxes.

"People know him locally, he did well in a struggling team last year. Fits into age parameters, wage parameters, ambitious, had a little bit of a taste of first-team football.

"He gives us a different option at the top end of the pitch."

ON INJURIES

"Helliwell is a definite no. Benson has got a chance.

"Helliwell will be out for 6-8 weeks. Josh has got a chance; we'll have to assess that and wait and see.

"From the game the other night, I think everyone came through it. Nicky Cadden is now fit, but we're having to condition him because he didn't have a pre-season."

ON SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

"Yeah, nice easy one!"

"A big team, signed a lot of players. A big club, the expectancy will be to get out of the league. A really difficult game."

ON IT BEING A SOUTH YORKSHIRE DERBY

"You shouldn't need to get motivated to play in front of 25,000 people. It's a brilliant place to go and play football.

"If you need motivating for these sorts of games then you're in the wrong game. This is what players want, they want to play in big games, they want to play in big stadiums. It doesn't always guarantee you a good performance, but it shouldn't be through lack of effort."
