Our Head Coach spoke to iFollow Barnsley after our 3-1 victory against the Addicks at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

A wonderful first-half strike from Josh Benson was followed by goals for James Norwood and Devante Cole in the second half, with the visitors grabbing a late consolation through Jack Payne.

Speaking after our 3-0 victory against Cambridge United last Saturday, the 44-year old thought his side weren't at their best despite victory. According to Duff, it was a similar picture against the Addicks.

"I didn't think we were brilliant today," opened the gaffer. "We knew we might have to suffer at times without the ball.

"I don't really remember Jack [Walton] having many saves to make. I thought we were really clinical as well."

Despite going into half time with the advantage, Duff was not content with how his side were performing in the opening 45. The visitors looked threatening in the wide areas, but the Reds dug in during that first half.

A tactical tweak at half-time, the boss felt, allowed the Reds to apply more pressure to Charlton, a side who like to play expansive football.

“We want to press high up the pitch,” he discussed. “The front three has changed - normally we’d press with the wing-backs and the front three. Two or three of them have changed today. We couldn’t quite work it out; they were playing through us too much, basically.

“So we shortened the distance between the centre forwards and the centre halves, denied space for them to play in and that helped.”

Our opener against the Addicks was a particularly eye-catching effort from Benson, rifling one into the top corner from more than 30 yards out.

Duff praised his performance out there on Saturday, after his return to the side following a short spell out with injury.

“When he got the ball, the crowd were shouting ‘shoot’ - I thought it was a bit too far out.

“But, as soon as it left his foot I don’t think it was going anywhere else other than the top left corner. Brilliant goal, brilliant piece of individuality. Then there’s the other bits, the together bits, the nitty gritty bits which allow you a moment of magic to go and win the game.”

Saturday’s victory makes it five unbeaten in the league for the Reds and marks back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

This was a topic of conversation prior to the game on Saturday, providing the team with extra incentive to go out and claim a successful result.

“Something we talked about before the game was that we haven’t gone back-to-back,” he said.

“I’d have liked another clean sheet. I thought the back five - all seven of them that got on the pitch a deserved a clean sheet, as well as Jack. I thought they were excellent throughout.

“But all today is, is three points. I’ve said to the players not to take it for granted. Don’t take liberties that we’ve won a game so the next one will be easy.

“It’s park it up, and try and win the next half of football.”
