After registering an assist and another solid performance in the middle of the park, Luca Connell spoke of his pride in his teammates after our 2-0 victory against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Devante Cole gave the Reds the lead after 34 minutes, before Connell delivered a corner in the 74th minute where James Norwood was on hand to power a header home and seal the three points.
The 21-year-old was full of praise for his Barnsley teammates for the application they showed at Hillsborough on Saturday.
"Yeah, huge win first of all," Connell lauded.
"Every man, from one to eleven, who started and everyone who came on all put a great shift in. When you work that hard, most of the time the game goes your way."
Limiting Sheffield Wednesday to very few chances and making the breakthrough, the first 45 minutes was an ideal start to the affair for the Reds.
The Liverpool-born midfielder believes that the first half was up there with one of the best halves so far this season Michael Duff's men have played.
"The first half, I'd say both defensively and attacking, we were the better side," he discussed.
"Second-half, they probably had more of the ball. We were resilient at the back, we stuck to our guns and then got a goal from the corner."
Norwood's headed finish signalled a third assist in two games for Connell, the number 48 enjoying a good start so far this season.
However, he maintained that the result is the most important thing, regardless of who is assisting or scoring: "Of course it's good to get your own numbers up, but, as everyone says the main thing is the win.
"As long as you get the three points, get over the line with that, that's the main thing."
The result last week at high-flying Ipswich along with the victory at Hillsborough on Saturday provides evidence that the Reds can compete with sides tipped to be towards the top of the division.
Connell believes the Reds have now set themself a benchmark for future matches: "When we stick together and when we work hard and put performances in like that.
"But, we've set our standard now. We can't go from up there to down there again, we need to bang at it."
