JACK BUTTERFILL ON DEBUT GOAL

21 September 2022

Our U21s striker made his professional debut under the lights at Oakwell in our 2-0 victory against Newcastle United U21s in the Papa John's Trophy and opened the scoring on Tuesday evening.

The teams were tied at 0-0 before Butterfill's introduction in the 71st minute, replacing Fabio Jalo up top. It took just seven minutes for the striker to make an impact, netting on his professional debut.

If you were to ask for the best-case scenario when making your debut, it wouldn't have been too far away from Jack's experience. He agreed.

"It was great, I couldn't have asked for any more," he beamed. "Coming on, making my debut and scoring the goal. It's amazing for me to even get on, let alone the goal."

The excitement began to set in for our Shropshire-born forward when the call came from the bench for his services.

Watching the game from the sidelines, Butterfill could sense that the chances were coming and thought he could make an impact.

"James said 'three minutes and you're coming on', so I was preparing for that. When I was coming on, I just tried to do what I can.

"I knew we had a fair few chances. So I thought hopefully I could come on and bury one for the team."

Despite injuries and setbacks in the game, the 21-year-old praised the team on how they adapted to the situation within the game.

"I thought we were great," he discussed. "When we went down with cramp and some injuries I thought we adjusted really well.

"The formation change at the back. Just trying to adjust and stick to the game plan, game management really."
