AN UPDATE ON BRAD COLLINS

20 September 2022

Our goalkeeper suffered a head injury during Saturday's victory at Cambridge United, but we are glad to report that he's on the mend.

It was just approaching the hour-mark at the Abbey Stadium when Brad Collins - just outside of his box - rose to try and head the ball clear, alongside U's striker Sam Smith.

An aerial collision saw him come off second best, leading to around 10 minutes of treatment from our own medical team, ably assisted by staff from Cambridge United.

Despite fears of a much worse outcome, he was able to return to his feet before being helped off the pitch by his teammates, then taken to a local hospital.

Collins - who was making his 100th appearance for the club on Saturday - suffered a broken nose and is recovering well.

"I want to thank all the fans of both clubs who've sent messages of support over the last couple of days." Brad told us, recuperating at home.

"It was a hefty blow but I'm in good hands and hopefully I can make a speedy recovery and get the gloves back on for the Reds."

Michael Duff's side, despite losing both Collins and later Liam Kitching (sent off) went on to record their biggest victory of the season, showing a real spirit and togetherness in the face of adversity.

Our goalkeeper admits that hearing news of the 3-0 win later that evening certainly lifted his mood.

"Fair play to the lads. To suffer knocks like that but still get out of the game with another big win on the road will do us the world of good."

Barnsley Football Club would like to thank all of those who've expressed their concern for Brad's wellbeing and once again acknowledge the swift and appropriate response from both our own medical team and that of the opposition.
