JOSH BENSON LOOKS AHEAD TO FLEETWOOD CLASH

29 September 2022

The midfielder spoke to the assembled press ahead of our trip to the Lancashire coast on Saturday where we take on Fleetwood Town in Sky Bet League One action.

ON HIS GOAL AGAINST CHARLTON

"I've watched it back a couple of times, I'm not going to lie!

"To be honest with you, I didn't know how far out it was. I've just seen the goal and thought 'I'm gonna have a go here'. I practice shooting a lot in training, I believe I can score from those sorts of distances and lucky enough it went in. It was a good one to add to the tally.

"The lads couldn't believe it to be fair! I've shown I can do it in training to be honest with you, so I'm a bit disappointed that they couldn't believe it!

ON THE FORM OF STRIKERS

"To get results you need your strikers scoring goals and they're on form at the moment. They're enjoying their football, they're gonna be happy because they're scoring goals.

"They're looking confident. With Devante, he's looking good this season, especially because he had a tough time last season, like I did. It comes from a run of games, getting confidence and scoring goals. We always believed in his ability and it's starting to show."

ON WORKING UNDER MICHAEL DUFF

"He's helped me a lot. He's helped the group a lot. He's helped me find my confidence. Just sticking to basics, playing football and not thinking too much. Work hard, keep your head down and things will pay you back."

ON SQUAD MORALE

"We all get on. It helps that we're all similar ages, other than Nors [James Norwood]. He might as well be our age, he's a character.

"It helps we're all similar ages and in similar stages of our career. There's a good bunch of lads and we all get on."

ON FLEETWOOD TOWN

"They've only lost one game all season, so it isn't going to be an easy game. Away at their ground it's going to be a tough game.

"We've just got to work hard and believe in ourselves."

ON FANS' SUPPORT THIS SEASON

"It helps a lot. At Cambridge, it meant a lot. They were loud and when you start scoring goals, it's a brilliant feeling."
