REDS PUT TO THE TEST ON TEAM BONDING TRIP

19 October 2022

The Reds were put through their paces in the Peak District by a former marine to further embed the core values of the team.

The day began with a long hike across the valley, tackling difficult terrain, steep hills, and barbed fences.

Once at the first checkpoint, the Reds were tasked with building a 'survival shelter' with the debris nature had left them on the forest floor - the Reds coaching staff tasked with judging the best attempt.

After the 2.5km walk to the initial checkpoint, the squad were then ordered to carry selected teammates, who were pretending to be injured, up a large peak. The activity required the team to dig in for their colleagues and persevere under immense physical exertion.

The lads then undertook a tactical session, learning more about the formation and techniques the marines use when in combat. This activity tested the squad's teamwork and communication, in what would be a life-or-death situation in the real world.

Another arduous hike followed, interspersed by being submerged in the icy cold stream that cut through the valley crossing. Aided by Ben, the guide and former marine, a gentle nudge was provided, with every member of the playing and non-playing staff taking the plunge.

Head Coach, Michael Duff was pleased with how the day went and with how his team dealt with the challenge.

"Really enjoyable day - something completely different.

"At the start of each different block of the day, they really grew into it. They lost their egos. There were some really tough bits in it, physically.

"I've seen loads of positives - in terms of different voices, seeing different characters in certain people. It's been a long but really rewarding day."
