THE REDS SUPPORT STONEWALL'S RAINBOW LACES CAMPAIGN

24 October 2022

Barnsley Football Club staff, players and fans will join forces during the next two home matchdays to highlight its total support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign and celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusion in football.

During the Reds' upcoming matches against Lincoln City tomorrow and Forest Green Rovers’ visit to Oakwell on Saturday, both sets of team captains will wear rainbow armbands to highlight the EFL’s long-standing commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Whilst Saturday's clash with FGR is our dedicated Rainbow Laces fixture, the annual campaign has already kicked off and thus, Oakwell will show its support - as always - throughout the whole week.

For almost ten years, Rainbow Laces has brought visibility for LGBTQ+ people in sport and raised awareness on and off the pitch. And in the past year, we’ve seen so much progress made, with several athletes bravely coming out across multiple sports, with support from their clubs and the vast majority of fans.

But there’s still so much more that needs to be done – and the numbers below clearly illustrate as much.

Chief Executive Officer at Barnsley FC, Khaled El-Ahmad, said: “We are extremely proud of our wonderful fan groups and the diverse nature of the Reds support.

“We appreciate the love they show for the team and the Club, and over the next two home fixtures we know our fans will continue to show that football is an inclusive environment for all.”
