TOM EDWARDS ON BOLTON DRAW

16 October 2022

The defender provided his reaction to our 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers for iFollow Barnsley.

The Reds halted the hosts' four-game winning streak at the University of Bolton Stadium after keeping Ian Evatt's side out resolutely across the 90 minutes.

Edwards was part of the backline that dug in on Saturday and praised the collective effort to earn a point on the road.

"We don't come away from home just to go for a point," he discussed. "We always go to win every single game. But based on how the game panned out, to take a point home is massive for us.

"The clean sheet - that's for the whole team - not just the back-five. It's a great feeling."

Chances were missed for both sides, with James Norwood having the best of the Reds' sights on goal, heading over in the area after a delivery from the left.

However, Edwards - playing at right wing-back - believes the Reds were good value for the scoreline and that a marker was laid down by the Reds after attaining a point, in what was a difficult affair.

"I think it was a fair result, the way we stuck in and defended and the way we worked throughout the whole 100 minutes.

"We always knew it was going to be difficult. But we back ourselves against anyone in this league and we wanted to make a statement today. To come here and get a clean sheet, I feel like we have."

By keeping Bolton out on Saturday, the Reds made it four clean sheets away from home on the spin in the league.

Edwards once again paid testament to the mentality and commitment of his teammates for the defensive solidity we have seen on the road.

"I'm sure teams know exactly what we're all about," he said. "We're hard-working, we stick together and we're tough to beat. I think we've proved that today.

"I just feel like, the team that we've got, people will say we're young. But, there's a lot of talent and a lot of leadership in there."

Joining on deadline day this summer, the 23-year-old feels he has incorporated well into the ideas and dynamic of the squad at Oakwell, and is proven by the unit that has been created defensively for the Reds.

"Any player can slot into this team and do well.

"I'm enjoying every second of it.

"Since I've been here everyone has been really welcoming. I've learned my role in this team. I know exactly what they want from me, whichever job they give me."
