MICHAEL DUFF'S VERDICT ON DEFEAT IN MORECAMBE

23 October 2022

Our Head Coach gave his thoughts after our 1-0 defeat to Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday.

A first-half goal from Kieran Phillips for the hosts was enough to separate the two sides on the Lancashire coast.

Duff was disappointed with how his side struggled to implement what the team had worked on all week, building up to the encounter.

"We didn't do the work that we've done during the week," he opened. "We spent a lot of time working with the ball.

"I thought the first 10-15 minutes we started well - we had a couple of chances. Then, we got sucked into a fight. We need to stick to what we do, better.

"It just became a really scrappy game. They [Morecambe] didn't offer a lot, but we didn't either."

One positive from Saturday is that the Reds have the chance to respond quickly, with Lincoln City being the visitors to Oakwell on Tuesday night.

Duff emphasised the importance of having consecutive games back at home in the coming week and putting in a performance for the Reds faithful.

"We've got two home games now," the gaffer asserted. "We need to give the supporters something to cheer and sing about. We didn't really give them a lot today.

"Another brilliant turnout from the away fans, but, sometimes it can't always be up to them to get us going - we need to get them going. We gave them nothing to shout about today and, quite rightly, got a bit of stick at the end."

The Reds will be boosted on Tuesday night by the availability of James Norwood, and potentially, Jordan Williams who is recovering from a muscle injury.

The 44-year-old insisted that Williams' involvement depends on how he fared in a session he did on Saturday morning, and well the lads involved at Morecambe came through the game.

"We're hoping Jordan will be fit," he said. "He's done another session today. Nors [James Norwood] will be back into the fold as well.

"We'll see who recovers well enough from today and we'll pick a team that hopefully will win the game."
