NICKY CADDEN ON LINCOLN DEFEAT

26 October 2022

The defender gave his thoughts to iFollow Barnsley after a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City in Sky Bet League One action at Oakwell on Tuesday night.

A goal just before the break from Daniel Mândroiu gave the Imps the lead, with the Reds unable to break down Mark Kennedy's side for the remainder of the affair.

Cadden maintained that the side's failure to find a breakthrough was not through lack of effort.

"We gave it our all tonight," said the Scotsman. "Obviously, we couldn't find a way to break them down and get that goal. I felt like we played well; it's just finding that goal.

"Giving a goal to Lincoln gives them the heads up and then they went 5-5 and it's hard to break down. The good thing about football is that we have another game Saturday. We'll move on to that."

Tuesday night's result made it four league games without scoring for Michael Duff's side, conceding four goals during that run.

The 26-year-old feels it's a case of providing the forward players with better service and enhancing the quality of chances the Reds are taking to get back firing again.

"I feel as if it's just a case of getting better quality in there, getting better shots off really," he said. "Sliding people in in the final third better. We've got good players in there, you can see that. Once we get one, I think the door will come down and there'll be three or four before you know it.

"We're a work in process. We're doing well on the training ground, working hard. I felt as though we did well tonight, it was just not the result we wanted. We need to go again on Saturday and hopefully get a better result."

Saturday's game sees the Reds take on Forest Green Rovers at Oakwell, our first ever meeting with 'The Green'.

Cadden joined the Reds from FGR in the summer, winning promotion to League One with the side last season, but emphasised the history he has with the club will not affect his preparation for this one.

"It doesn't change how I approach a game. I'm sure I'll get a few texts over the next couple of days, but, at the end of the day I want three points. That's the way it is now."
