iFollow Barnsley will document the progress of our Irish defender as he recovers from his recent ACL injury.
In our first instalment of 'Road to Recovery' with McCarthy, he provided an update on how he is feeling post-op and provided a little more detail of the incident that led to him sustaining the injury against Charlton Athletic five weeks ago.
"I feel good," he began. "I feel very good actually. I'm in a really good place at the moment. Obviously, when it happened, you go through a wide range of emotions. Like I said, I'm in a good place and ready for the road ahead.
"The ball was coming in at my midriff. I chested the ball down to one of my midfielders, and basically one of the strikers just came through and came over the top of me. At the time, I thought it was one of those contact injuries - I felt a dull pain in the back of my knee.
"I'll be back better than ever."
