ZIYAD PREVIEWS PAPA JOHN'S TRIP TO PORT VALE

23 November 2022

Our on-loan French wing-back is hoping to get game-time in this evening's tie with the Valiants, as he looks to force his way into Michael Duff's thinking.

The 20-year-old signed temporarily for the Reds on deadline day, leaving behind the Premier League with Fulham, hoping to find more regular first team football.

He's nine appearances into his spell at Oakwell, but has found starting opportunities limited thus far and looks once again to the Papa John's Trophy for a route back into the XI and grabbing himself the chance to impress with both hands.

"We've good competition here," Ziyad admitted, as we discussed the trip to Burslem on Wednesday night.

"In the world of football, you've always got to compete. Sometimes that's against the other team on a Saturday or in this case, a Wednesday, but then also inside your team - there's always competition.

"I really want to play more, obviously, it's important that I can earn myself more game-time. I will look to do my best when selected and hopefully help the team whether that be scoring or creating goals, or defending at the other end of the pitch."

It would be remiss of us not to refer back to an earlier game in this competition where Ziyad marked his Barnsley debut with a peach of a strike against Newcastle United's U21 side.

An attacking wing-back, Larkeche remembers it fondly and is hoping that if he's picked against Port Vale, he can again help influence a positive result.

"I was very happy to mark my debut with a good goal and a man of the match award in a game that we won. It'd be a top feeling to do that again in this next game!

"It's another competition, another opportunity to make progress and if we go all the way then it's a chance to play at Wembley. But we know it will be tough on Wednesday, we've already played Port Vale so we know what they're all about.

"We've had a good week in training so we feel confident in getting a result."
