MICHAEL DUFF AHEAD OF EMIRATES FA CUP TIE WITH CREWE

25 November 2022

The Reds' Head Coach previewed tomorrow's meeting with the Railwaymen at Oakwell.

ON INJURIES

"We don't have anything else from the other night. Will Hondermarck is going in for surgery today, after an innocuous tackle in training. We've been unlucky in that regard this season. They're not niggling injuries we are picking up, they're fairly lengthy. It's a shame because Will would have played at Port Vale.

"But other than that, we have the same players available.

"No Wolfie (Matty Wolfe), no (Slobodan) Tedic, Jordan Helliwell, Luke Thomas and of course, Conor McCarthy. They're all long-term.

"But this is why we have a squad. If people didn't get injured I'm sure the football club would let us have just 12 players!"

ON PORT VALE DEFEAT

"It was a difficult one, because we knew they'd go very strong. They put it back a day too, knowing they'd not got an FA Cup game this weekend. The pitch was very heavy, it's not suited to getting the ball down and the conditions played into that. And if you look at the playing time of each squad, they'd got a very experienced team out there.

"We approached the game like we have in the other games, giving players an opportunity, to get minutes into some alongside some of the youngsters, and one or two of the regular lads. That's how we view the competition, to try and develop players for the long-run.

"I felt considering all that, once we changed shape we gave it a right good go and the younger lads will have learned more on Wednesday night than they'll do in the 21s."

ON THE FA CUP

"In terms of prioritising, the FA Cup comes before the Papa John's. We're at home, we're in a decent little bit of form and we want to maintain that momentum that we've gathered recently.

"We will be the favourites tomorrow, there's no getting away from that. So we'll be picking a team that we think can get us into the hat for the third round draw on Monday evening."

ON CREWE

"They're on a decent run themselves, they've won their last four games without conceding a goal, so they're clearly a tough nut to crack. And it's always a tricky round this, the second round. Because you know there's an opportunity ahead of you.

"It's about keeping the performances going for us. We're at Oakwell, we're a league above the opposition and it's a chance to progress."
