CONOR McCARTHY BECOMES EDUCATION AMBASSADOR

29 November 2022

The Reds defender takes up the role as Education Ambassador as part of the charitable arm of the Club.

As part of the role, Conor will support students, participants and players across the Club's academy and Community programme to support educational choices, acting as a role model for young people.

He will also attend Q and A sessions with students, support disadvantaged students and promote higher education for our U18s, U21s and other professional players at the Club with the aim of promoting the idea of investing in your future, creating more opportunities in and out of the game through education.

The 24-year-old spoke of his pride in taking up the role: "I'm delighted to be starting in the role of Education Ambassador for Reds in the Community.

"Education is something I'm extremely passionate about. This opportunity will allow me to work in a field that matters to me whilst helping out the younger lads here at the Club and the Community.

"I would like to thank Mark and the team at Reds in the Community for allowing me to partake in this role and I can't wait to get going!"

Mark Crossfield, Head of Academy Education and Welfare at Barnsley FC, added: “I’m delighted that Conor has been so positive in taking on the role as Education Ambassador for both the academy and the Community programme.

“He follows in the footsteps of former Reds greats in Adam Hammill and Kieffer Moore in becoming Education Ambassador and being the central role model for so many young people.

“Conor is leading by example by combining higher education study with professional football, he will be speaking openly with the academy players about this and how they can safeguard their future careers inside and outside of football.”
