Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the extension of three contracts from within our academy set-up.
David Bremang, Jordan Helliwell and Charlie Winfield have all agreed new terms at Oakwell.
Upon concluding the deals, Barnsley FC Chief Executive Officer Khaled El-Ahmad said: “First and foremost, I think it’s a testament to Barnsley’s academy and the work Bobby Hassell and all the coaches – Tom Harban, Martin Devaney and everyone else – has done, along with the physios, medical staff and sports science.
“Any time we can sign players for Barnsley FC is always an exciting day, specifically when it comes to academy players.
“We were proud with how Charlie accepted the loan to Denmark, where he did really well and then came back.
“Unfortunately, he got a serious injury, but we still want to keep him, so we’re extending his contract and look forward to having him back as soon as possible, although it might still take some time.
“Jordan also accepted the loan, which showed the faith in the pathway we tried to create. He came back earlier and had a bit of a dip.
“But we really liked his character; he put his head down and worked extremely hard to prove himself, so he’s also worthy of this. Where we see Charlie as a left-back, Jordan can play centrally and also has the versatility to play wide right.
“David has been scoring goals in the under 23s and now we want to see if he can do it at a senior level.
“They will all join us in pre-season, and then it’s up to them. We are all very excited and, hopefully, the fans are too and will support these young boys to help them become the best that they can be.”
Dynamic full-back, Winfield said: “I’m over the moon, especially while I’m injured. It’s just given me a bit more motivation to get back fit. This is one of the goals I set myself, to try and get a new deal while I was at Esbjerg and, luckily, I’ve managed to do that.”
Fresh from making his Sky Bet Championship debut against Preston North End last month, Helliwell stated: “I’m delighted to have signed. I’m looking forward to getting back into pre-season, working hard and seeing where next season can lead me. Making my Championship debut was a massive moment – I didn’t expect it at all. To come on for the period of time that I did, I thought I did alright as well.”
Having finished the season as our top scorer in the U23s, Bremang added: “I’m happy. It’s been a tough season, but hopefully now I can go and show what I’m about. I’d say I’m happy with my goals return, but you can always do better, so hopefully I can kick on next season and get more.”
Congratulations to Charlie, David and Jordan on your new deals!
