CALLUM STYLES PREVIEWS BLADES TRIP

17 March 2022

Ahead of Saturday's South Yorkshire derby, the midfield man gave us his thoughts going into the clash.

ON HIS HUNGARY CALL-UP

“I’m buzzing about it, to receive an international call-up. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the squad and getting my international career started.

“It’s been going on behind-the-scenes for a long time, so it wasn’t a big shock and my family are so proud of me. But it was only a couple of years ago that we found out my grandmother was Hungarian.

“I think it was during lockdown 2020, the first one that it all came out. I think the Hungarian FA must have found out through the media or whatever, but I’m buzzing about it all.

“It’s about my heritage too I guess. I’ve found other relatives who live out there so hopefully they can come and see me play too.

“The standard is decent too. A lot of players from Germany in particular. It’s exciting for me, but I’ve a job to do this weekend first.”

THE REDS' IMPROVED FORM

“I think it’s been a matter of time. We’ve been playing well for most of the last 10 games or so in my opinion. But we weren’t always getting what we deserved.

“The results have fallen a little better recently, but there have been improvements for most of this year, that’s what we were feeling as a group. It’s great that now we are getting the points that our performances warranted.

“There’s lots of here who know what it’s like to play in a battle like this. So we never doubted ourselves. We keep pushing and pushing, moving forward.

“We aren’t looking at other sides, we just focus on what we can do.”

ON SHEFFIELD UNITED

“They’ve obviously done really well this season, after a tough start.

“I’m not sure they’re in the best form right now, so we need to be strong on Saturday, take the game to them and hopefully we can get a positive result.

“There’s no pressure other than which we put on ourselves. We put on that shirt and represent our fans. We owe them performances and ourselves. We don’t care who is writing us off. We have shown we can compete with the best teams.

“Our mindset is positive. We are going to Sheffield with a plan to beat United.”
