REDS EASE TO ROBINS VICTORY

15 March 2022

A pair of first half goals saw Barnsley to a priceless three points at Oakwell tonight.

Goals from Carlton Morris and Michał Helik in the opening 45 were enough for a dominant Reds outfit against Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.

In a blistering start to proceedings, Barnsley went ahead on nine minutes as Morris turned in from close-range following an Amine Bassi corner kick that Matty Wolfe redirected towards goal.

Just over 10 minutes later, the Reds doubled their lead when another Bassi corner was headed home at the near post by Helik.

On the half-hour mark, Bristol City should have pulled one back but following a terrific Antoine Semenyo cross to the far stick, Andi Weimann couldn't apply the finish, blasting wide from a couple of yards out.

Morris then held the ball up brilliantly and teed up Claudio Gomes but the Frenchman's shot was deflected behind for a corner.

It had been the perfect first half for Poya Asbaghi and his side.

HALF-TIME: Barnsley 2-0 Bristol City

The game quietened in the second period, and it wasn't until the 62nd minute that we registered another effort on goal when after a mazy Domingos Quina run, Morris was thwarted low down by Robins' stopper Dan Bentley.

Quina then smashed a powerful effort into the side netting before soon after dribbling into the box and firing a foot wide of the far post.

Next to test Bentley was Rémy Vita as he forced the goalkeeper into a fine save down at his near post.

The visitors had their moments, but their shooting was off-target throughout and the Reds eased to a comfortable night's work and closed the gap to safety.
