Barnsley Football Club is proud to partner with Pennies, the UK’s micro-donations charity, as it looks to boost funds to its charity arm, Reds in the Community.
Reds supporters will now be given the option to donate to this great cause in a new way, with shoppers in the Reds Superstore invited to make a small digital donation to RITC when completing any card purchase in-store or online.
Every penny given goes to charity: 90% to RITC and 10% to Pennies who use its funds to grow the micro-donation movement and operate the ‘digital charity box’.
Andrew Clark, Marketing, Commercial & Business Director at Barnsley FC is thrilled with this innovative partnership, saying: “It’s a superb idea and we’re excited to team with Pennies to make this happen here at Oakwell.
“In the past, our tills would be covered in collection tins but we live in a digital world and this feels like a logical move on our part.
“Pennies is an award-winning fintech charity with huge expertise in the field of digital donations and this natural step forward will hopefully boost much-needing funding for our charitable arm of the Club, Reds in the Community.”
Chief Executive Officer of Reds in the Community, Paul France told us about the initiatives that would benefit through any such micro-donation: “Reds in the Community are the official charity of Barnsley FC. Reds in the Community use the reach of Barnsley Football Club as a force for good, providing inspiring, inclusive programmes which raise aspirations and support our community through positive change. We do this by delivering 40 different projects across our common themes of Sport, Health, Inclusion and Education.
“Working collaboratively with local stakeholders, we aim to improve some of the key local strategic issues such as Mental Health in Schools, Youth Unemployment, Attainment and Aspirations, and Food and Fuel Poverty. Reds in the Community aim to make our supporters proud of the work Barnsley FC does in its community to improve lives. Thank you for your support.”
Alison Hutchinson CBE, Pennies CEO said: “We are thrilled to welcome Barnsley FC to the micro-donation movement, another opportunity enabled by our partners Retail Sports Systems and Optomany. Every donation from their fans will support the fantastic work of Reds in the Community. I am confident the fans' engagement will be amazing and together their small Pennies donation will add up to making a tremendous impact in their community.”
