MICHAŁ HELIK POST-DERBY COUNTY

6 March 2022

Speaking after our 2-0 defeat at Derby County on Saturday afternoon, Michał Helik believes the Reds weren’t at the races in this key clash at the foot of the table.

Barnsley couldn’t rediscover the kind of form from previous outings and were punished at Pride Park by two Ravel Morrison strikes.

“It’s a big disappointment, but I think from the whole game we deserved to lose,” admitted Helik. “We were not good enough – we need to say that – but the good thing is we are still in the game.

“We have the next game in the middle of the week, so we are looking forward to that because we want to show a better performance because we are unhappy with our performance.

“I think Derby started well; they were switching the game so much and using their goalkeeper to do this. After the goal, I think we were a bit better, but at the beginning of the second half we conceded a counter-attack.

“So, it was tough, we tried until the end, but it was not good enough to score a goal and, like I said, we are looking forward to the next game.”

There is little time for the dust to settle on this latest setback in our bid for survival as Stoke City visit Oakwell on Tuesday evening.

Helik feels there is still plenty of time this campaign to put things right and pick up the necessary points to retain our Sky Bet Championship status.

“We are feeling more comfortable on our pitch with our fans,” discussed the Pole, looking ahead to the three consecutive home fixtures. “That gives me more confidence and even though we lost this game, we are not in bad form for the last few games.

“So, I’m still quite confident that we can reach a lot of wins before the end of the season.”
