KEEGAN HARTLEY POST-WIGAN

17 March 2022

Our U18s claimed a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in Lancashire, with Keegan Hartley scoring one of two goals to help secure back-to-back wins for our young Reds.

The youngster gave his reaction to the victory and discussed how his goal came about.

“We came here to do a job and we did,” affirmed Hartley. “I was in the right place at the right time with the goal, it was just a tap in, but you’ve got to be there to put it in”.

After a first half that was devoid of many of the principles our U18s boss demands, Hartley said that the team implemented these in the second half and that allowed us to control proceedings from then on.

“We just got higher up the pitch, we were a bit deep in the first half, a bit too off it,” Hartley reiterated. “So, we got up to the ball and got in their faces and got more second balls and built on that.”

On a personal note, Hartley is enjoying a fruitful campaign in a red shirt, featuring for both our U18s and U23s. However, there are still at least six games to play as the Professional Development League draws to a close, but our young Reds have aspirations of a top two play-off place.

“It’s going good yeah,” continued our midfielder. “I’ve started to get a few U23s starts, getting in and around the scoring so good yeah. To win every game, to go in wanting three points, we don’t want nothing less; we just want three every game.”
