JOSIAH DYER POST-SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

28 March 2022

Hat-trick hero Josiah Dyer spoke of his delight after helping our U18s claim an impressive 4-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

Our young striker was also full of praise for coach, Tom Harban, who has helped to get the best out of him alongside fellow frontman Fabio Jalo.

I think with Tom he knows my strengths so every time I play, he tells me just do what I do best, which is hold the ball and when we have got it out wide to just get in the box and get the goals like I did against Wednesday,” said Dyer.

“I think that’s four goals now for the 18s and its my second start in the league, scored one in the cup, so yeah, it’s going well.”

With competition for places fierce within our young Reds’ set-up, a hat-trick doesn’t necessarily guarantee Dyer a starting berth for the trip to Charlton Athletic next weekend.

For our academy players, it is a case of training well throughout the week, sticking together and putting in the best possible performance when they travel to south London.

“You never know, it’s just about working hard,” he continued. “I’ve worked hard a lot this season to get my chance and it’s just about taking it because we have got great competition on the bench, so it’s just about keeping going now.”
