AMIR ARIELY POST-PETERBOROUGH

19 March 2022

Following our U23s 3-1 victory against Peterborough United, defender Amir Ariely expressed his thoughts about the win and his late goal that sealed three points.

The young Israeli was on hand to poke home from close range after the visitors had failed to deal with Will Lancaster’s dangerous free-kick.

I think in the past few games we have played really well they haven’t been bad performances; we have just been unlucky but this game we started off really bright we scored a nice goal,” he discussed.

“Perhaps we could have finished it in the first half and even in the second half we had chances and then I think the goal that we conceded we could have done better.

“But I think it was good that I didn’t put my head down and make sure I finished the game strong which obviously scoring the winning goal is an amazing feeling, so I am buzzing about that.”

It was a big moment for Ariely, who suffered a nasty injury on his last outing on the main pitch at Oakwell – at the very end where he scored on Friday afternoon.

After spending three months on the sidelines, the 19-year-old has gradually regained match sharpness and put in a number of fine performances for Martin Devaney’s team.

“I didn’t think about the injury to be honest,” he admitted. “I think before the game I was reading a book on my bed and I was just thinking about the last time I played it wasn’t the best day of my life.

“We lost 7-0 and had quite a big injury but, now that you mention it, I have scored the winning goal in the same place that I did the injury it’s a nice place for closure if you know what I mean.”

Up next for the young Reds is another game at Oakwell on Tuesday afternoon as we entertain Swansea City in the Professional Development League.

Ariely is hoping his side can pick up where they left off and continue finishing the campaign strongly.

I think we have Saturday and Sunday off,” said our defender. “On Monday we will be back in and start the preparations for Tuesday and then hopefully we can grab the three points with a good performance.”
