Speaking after signing a two-year contract extension, Will Hondermarck spoke of how pleased he was to have his future secured at Oakwell.
The Irishman made ten appearances for the Reds in his debut season last time out, and now this deal is done wants to build for the future.
"I'm delighted," beamed Hondermarck.
"It has been in talks for a while. It was coming as well, due to last season, it was my breakout year with the first team.
"Getting it over the line now and being able to have that security is a big thing for me."
In his appearances for the Club, Will was utilised in different positions across the field and demonstrated his versatility. But it's emerging from deep where the French-born player feels he is most effective.
"I think definitely breaking lines from either wing-back or midfield. It's obviously very dependent on the system, however the gaffer wants to play, I can be utilised in different ways.
"At this age I'm not too focused on a particular position. I think just developing, trying different systems and seeing where I suit best is the main focus for me."
Attention turns to the present, and it's the preparations for the 2022/23 campaign. At this stage it's about getting minutes into the legs and building fitness.
"It's been going very well," Will continued. "We had our first game on Saturday aganst Worksop which went well as well. There's been a lot of running, a lot of physical work, but it's what we need."
The pre-season has also seen the appointment of our new Head Coach, Michael Duff. Hondermarck has enjoyed his time working under our new gaffer so far.
"The first thing I would say is that you can tell he is very organised. He knows what he wants and made it clear from the first day. The second day we had a big meeting where he set his values, what he wants from the team, from each player.
"Obviously it's quite early, but the first initial thing that I saw was that someone who is organised, knows what he wants, and he will demand that for the rest of the season."
