The Reds will take on Doncaster Rovers, Lincoln City and Newcastle U21 in Group E of the competition.
The first game will be played week commencing 29 August, with the second and third group games being played 19th September and 17th October respectively.
All EFL clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the group stages.
The Reds have had recent success in the competition, winning the trophy in 2016 after beating Oxford United 3-2 at Wembley Stadium.
