PATRICK SCHMIDT DEPARTS OAKWELL

17 June 2022

The forward returns to his native Austria after spending three years at Oakwell.

The Austrian has rejoined his former side, having originally arrived at Oakwell in the summer of 2019 from Admira.

Despite limited opportunities, the 23-year-old striker famously scored important winning goals against both Millwall and Nottingham Forest during the dramatic climax to the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign, whilst also assisting Clarke Oduor’s last-gasp winner at Griffin Park, as the Reds maintained their second-tier status, beating Brentford2-1 in July of 2020.

Now returning to Admira Wacker, after spells on loan with SV Ried and Esbjerg over the last couple of seasons, Patrick thanked Reds fans for their backing whilst representing Barnsley FC.

I want to thank the Barnsley fans for their massive support during my time at Barnsley. I‘ve enjoyed every second of wearing this shirt and will keep moments like our ‘great escape‘ in 2020 in my mind forever.

I also want to thank my teammates, coaches and all the people working for the club for creating a good atmosphere at Oakwell. I will leave the club as a player but will stay as a fan forever. All the best for the future to everyone!

You Reds!”

Everyone at Oakwell would like to wish Patrick Schmidt - Alumni number 1349 - all the very best of luck in this next stage of his career.
