Ahead of the 22/23 campaign, some of the lads have been back on the training ground earlier than usual, including versatile defender Jasper Moon.

The 21-year-old completed his first week back at Oakwell under the watchful eye of sports scientist James Walsh, as one of the more experienced members of a young group, and told us that it was a positive start to this summer's pre-season preparation.

"The first day was a light one," said Moon. "Just getting us back into things, making sure there was no injuries and just seeing where we were at in terms of fitness.

"It was a lot tougher after that, with us doing a lot of running on day two.

"Based more on endurance, in the sunshine, it was a good test."

Whilst taking in an overseas holiday, the Coventry native also made sure he was ticking over during the break, with some individual training sessions away from Oakwell.

It's something he feels has put him in good stead, ahead of the new campaign.

"I just thought that to give myself the very best chance going into this new season, that I'd get that work in during the off-season.

"I like to keep myself in shape anyway, but I got a few one-to-one sessions in and my coach was really good, it definitely kept me sharp and ready to come back this week."

The Reds will be looking to bounce back from last season's disappointment as quickly as possible. The youngster admits that it's a challenge in front of them, and feels that getting off to positive beginnings will be key if they're going to compete at the right end of the table this term.

He told us: "It's always nice to see the lads, see how they've been getting on. I think the group have been in good spirits and it's great to see.

"We have a big season ahead of us, so the training will ramp up over the next couple of weeks. We need to start well and get this club back where it belongs."
