INTERN OPPORTUNITIES IN MEDIA DEPARTMENT

Barnsley Football Club has a number of exciting opportunities available within its Media, Marketing and Communications department ahead of the 22/23 campaign.

We are looking for creative and talented individuals, who are keen to learn in a fast-paced environment and expand their portfolio, whilst gaining valuable experience in the industry.

These unpaid internships are for students in further education who are studying towards a relevant degree.

This is a chance to produce work alongside dedicated staff at a professional football club and showcase your abilities.

We have a proven track record over the last decade of developing interns to further their career, with many going on to secure employment within the industry.

The most recent success story being Lewis Robinson, who was our Reporter intern during the 21/22 season and started as Press Officer at the end of May after flourishing during his internship.

“Being offered a place as an intern at Barnsley last season changed my life, as it was the first step on the way towards my dream career,” explained Lewis. “The experience I gained at Barnsley was second to none, being given the opportunity to publish work to a large, passionate audience in a professional environment.

The following positions are available:
Reporter intern
Photographer intern
Videographer intern
Graphic Designer intern

REPORTER INTERN

Roles and responsibilities

  • Shadow the Media, Marketing and Communications department, assisting in compiling match previews, reports and reaction pieces for our U23s and U18s fixtures
  • Help conduct interviews with academy players and coaching staff
  • Opportunities to shadow staff at first team fixtures may arise throughout the season

Essential skills and experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write quickly, accurately and creatively working to deadlines
  • Knowledge of social media
  • Strong understanding of football
  • Keen to learn alongside experienced professionals
  • Willing to work as part of a team

Desirable skills

  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word

PHOTOGRAPHER INTERN

Roles and responsibilities

  • Shadowing the Media, Marketing and Communications department and the photographing of U23s and U18s fixtures
  • Attend Oakwell at least once a week to photograph academy and first team training, with the potential for your images to be used on official club channels, where you will be credited for your work
  • Opportunities to shadow staff at first team fixtures may arise in the season

Essential skills and experience

  • Knowledge of using a Nikon camera or similar model
  • Creative flair and ability to capture the moment
  • Understanding of Adobe Photoshop and editing software
  • Willing to work as part of a team and keen to learn on the job
  • Keen to learn alongside experienced professionals

Desirable skills and experience

  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays
  • Own camera or access to photography equipment, however, this can be provided
  • Experience of photographing live sporting events is advantageous

VIDEOGRAPHER INTERN

Roles and responsibilities

  • Shadow the Media, Marketing and Communications department by assisting in the filming of U23s and U18s fixtures
  • Help to film and edit on-camera interviews
  • Opportunity to produce and create behind-the-scenes content

Essential skills and experience

  • Understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro or other editing software
  • Creative flair
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a team and keen to learn on the job

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of filming sporting events, preferably football
  • Access to own camera and editing software, but will be provided if necessary
  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays

GRAPHIC DESIGNER INTERN

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assist the Media, Marketing and Communications department in the creating of graphics, posters and other artwork
  • Focus will primarily be on our U23s and U18s in the Academy here at Oakwell
  • Opportunity to create engaging content across departments

Essential skills and experience

  • Strong understanding of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or other editing software
  • Creative flair
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a team

Desirable skills and experience

  • Access to your own laptop or PC with editing software, but can be provided
  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell

Please note that whilst these are unpaid internships, travel expenses will be covered with club clothing and equipment provided where necessary.

You may be required to work unsociable hours during this internship.

Successful candidates will have to complete a DBS check prior to starting; this will be provided by the Club.
