BARNSLEY FC LINK UP WITH FOODBANK

17 June 2022

Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce a partnership with Barnsley Foodbank ahead of the 2022/23 season!

Unfortunately, reliance on the Foodbank has increased 16% since the start of 2022 and is only predicted to get worse with the current cost of living crisis.

Therefore, Barnsley Football Club want to help a key institution who do great work in our community by providing a donation point at every home Saturday match in the upcoming season.

Last season, Barnsley FC opened a donation point for certain games throughout the season, and a vast amount of food items were donated to the Foodbank, thanks to the incredible generosity of Barnsley supporters.

The hope is that opening the donation point more frequently will allow Reds supporters to continue their kindness and donate essential food items to the people who require it the most in our town.

Suzanne Storey, Barnsley Foodbank manager, expressed her gratitude towards the people of Barnsley: “People are really generous in Barnsley, they’re always giving to the foodbank, whether that’s items donated or monetary donations.

“The football club has been brilliant. We started links with the club last year and hopefully that continues and is even bigger and better over the next year.”

Our first summer signing, Jamie Searle, visited Barnsley Foodbank and got stuck in alongside the fantastic volunteers.

“The volunteers at the foodbank, I take my hat off to them really. These aren’t the best of times right now, as we all know and so anything that can raise awareness is massive.

“I think it’s great that as a club we can connect with such organisations. It’s something that became clear to me when I signed - which impressed me - that the club and the community come together like this.”

Andrew Clark, Marketing, Commercial & Business Director at Barnsley FC, echoed the sentiments of Suzanne Storey, thanking the supporters for their immense generosity.

“We feel privileged to be in a position where we can help organisations like Barnsley Foodbank, but that’s thanks to the generosity of our supporters who’ve brought tonnes of items on a matchday.

“Our partnership will hopefully grow this coming season. On each Saturday matchday at Oakwell we will look to host a collection point, and more details on that will be provided leading up to the fixtures.”
