Following his arrival on a free transfer, Nicky Cadden sat down to talk to us here in the Oakwell sunshine.
After most recently helping Forest Green Rovers to promotion last season, Cadden joins the Reds on a two-year deal, and links up with Michael Duff's squad for pre-season training.
The 25-year-old Scot is excited by the challenge ahead of him.
"I'm delighted to be here!" Cadden beamed, speaking to iFollow Barnsley. "It happened quite quickly, so I'm happy to get it sorted."
Despite receiving offers from a number of clubs - as a free agent - including some from the division above, Nicky decided Oakwell was the best place for the next step in his career.
"As soon as I spoke to the club, it was very positive. It seemed like they really wanted me here. It looks like a great place to play football too. I'm excited, and I can't wait for the season to start now."
Notching six goals and 13 assists last season from a wide left position last season, the former Greenock Morton man feels that flank is where he is best utilised.
"I'm an old-fashioned wide player," he explained. "I like to hit the byline, get crosses into the box. I think I'm quite good at set pieces too, so that's what the fans can expect from me.
"I can play left-wing, left wing-back, left back, so anywhere on the left really!"
Joining the Reds off the back of a promotion with Forest Green last campaign, Nicky is hoping to bring that personal momentum into the upcoming campaign with Barnsley.
"Obviously we want to get back up to the Championship. Another promotion would be absolutely amazing, and that's what the aim is.
"Whether it's winning the league or just promotion, I don't care as long as we get up."
In terms of personal goals, Cadden confides in those closest to him and usually sets targets with his father each summer.
"Me and my Dad have a talk before every season and set targets. I passed them last year so that was quite good!
"Hopefully, I can do that again this year."
