Former Burnley and Northern Ireland international arrives at Oakwell.

The 35-year-old links up with our Head Coach Michael Duff once again after tasting promotion to the Premier League together as players at Burnley Football Club in 2008.

Paterson joins the Reds from Inter Miami, where he most recently spent time as First Team assistant coach, working under Phil Neville and David Beckham.

Starting out at Stoke City as a player and coming through their ranks, the striker went on to have an established career in English football and even spells in the United States and India.

The Northern Irishman represented his country 22 times across his career, scoring three times on the international stage.

Chief Executive Officer of Barnsley Football Club, Khaled El-Ahmad said: “We are pleased to have Martin join our First Team coaching staff here at Oakwell.

“Martin has a great knowledge of the English game and provides great energy to the players, and also set piece knowledge. He has had having fantastic experiences of playing and coaching in the States where he will have also been exposed to different ways of playing.

“Everyone at Oakwell extends their warmest welcome to Martin.”

Martin Paterson spoke of his excitement at the task at hand here at Oakwell: “I’m delighted to be here.

“I know this club very well, having played against Barnsley many times in my playing career.

“It’s great to team up with Michael Duff again. As soon as I got the call to join him, to come to such a good club like this, there was no hesitation. I just want to assist the gaffer, to support him and hopefully together we can all get this club back to where it ought to be.”

Welcome to Oakwell, Martin Paterson!
