Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Jo Laumann has joined Belgian side Standard Liège.
The Moroccan-born coach joined the Club alongside Valérien Ismaël in October 2020 as part of the Frenchman's backroom staff.
Laumann took interim charge of the Reds in November 2021 after the departure of Markus Schopp last season. The 38-year-old remained part of the backroom team for the remainder of the 21/22 campaign once Poya Asbaghi took the reins.
Laumann had a message for Reds fans, thanking them for their support during his time at the Club:
“I really, really enjoyed my time at Barnsley Football Club. For me so far, it is the best experience I have had in my life in coaching and in football – to coach in England was a dream come true because England is a big part for every coach.
“I enjoyed my time at Barnsley – I loved the town and had my places to go to with good people like coffee places, and the fans were all really nice to me, and I think I had a good relationship with everyone.
“The staff were great, and we had a good season two years ago. Even though last season was not so good, I felt like I was in a good environment and, for sure, I want to thank everyone – the media team, the technical staff and the coaches who I worked with, the owners for giving me the opportunity to work at the Club and, especially, Khaled, who helped me from the first day he came.
“I learnt a lot from everyone, and Barnsley will always be a place where I would like to come back and see the people. I will always stay connected, and I am always in touch with the staff who I worked with.
“It was a special time to finish in the play-offs and, even though it was sad last year, it was special for me to have the interim job and I had great support from the staff and the fans – especially having that moment in the win against Derby County.
“I wish the Club, the fans and everyone who works for the Club the very best and to bounce back this season.”
Barnsley Football Club would like to thank Jo for all of his efforts during his time at Oakwell and wish him all the very best for the future.
