WILLIAMS ON FA CUP CLASH

6 January 2022

Our defender helped preview Saturday's tie with the Bluebirds.

ON COVID-19 ISSUES

“It’s been a tough period for us, games called of, but we can’t do anything about it. The virus is still prevalent and so we’ve just had to get out on the training ground and work hard with the gaffer to try and get better, to try and improve when we are back in action. We do lateral flow tests every day. We’ve been lucky so far that we’ve only ever had a few cases, everyone takes it seriously and tries not to do much outside of the club, and we’ve not called any games off yet. But it’s a tough period definitely."

BLACKBURN DEFEAT

“In spells there we played some good football. I think we were too expansive at times and played into Blackburn’s hands a little. They were good on the counter and they punished our mistakes. But we had spells, it was a tight game in the end and they’re flying at the top of the league.”

ON THE BOSS

“He’s a good communicator, he makes everything very clear, he loves to talk to everyone. That’s a big plus for us as a young group. He’s told me personally that he likes what he sees from me, but it’s a strong area for us, the backline, so if I get a chance again this weekend I need to perform and cement my place in the team. I’m still young, I’m learning all the time.”

COMPETITION FOR PLACES

“You’re always fighting for your place in the team, so if there are to be players brought in during this month, then it adds extra competition to the group. We certainly need to find our way in this second half of the season, so if it’s new players to help push the team forward, so be it.”

THE FA CUP

“It’s a massive competition and you always dream of playing in the FA Cup as a kid. It’s something I get excited about. I remember when Wigan won it that year. It’s a great cup and anything can happen. I hope we can go on a run, like we did last season and hopefully it will kick us on, like it did last season too.”

ON BARROW

“Winning a game of football can change things instantly. We know they’ll fancy it on Saturday, but we are looking at this month as huge for our season. There’s some big games and a chance to get up the table, but we are focused on starting this important month with a big cup win over Barrow and then we push on from there.”
