JORDAN WILLIAMS POST-BOURNEMOUTH

30 January 2022

Speaking after our 1-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, Jordan Williams believes the Reds can take encouragement from their performance.

Despite not seeing much of the ball over the course of the game, Barnsley still managed to carve out several presentable opportunities, only to be thwarted by the outstanding Mark Travers in the Cherries goal.

“It’s tough at the minute,” conceded Williams. “We’ve fought very hard, dug in and gone back to basics. I think they’ve found it hard and rode their luck at times; we just can’t score at the minute, and it’s tough.

“We’re just trying to dig in and fight ‘til the end.”

Chances came and went for the Reds, with Aaron Leya Iseka, Callum Styles and debutant Aiden Marsh all coming close to snatching what would have been a deserved share of the spoils.

However, it wasn’t meant to be, but Williams insists the belief is still there in the changing room despite our lowly league position.

“We were always on the front foot in the second half trying to push for that equaliser, and it just didn’t fall for us,” he continued. “We had some chances and, on another day, they go in.

“It’s been like that all season, really, but we’ll keep going and it’s a massive game on Wednesday that we’re looking forward to and we believe we can get the three points.”

Games are coming thick and fast, with Cardiff City up next for the Reds on Wednesday evening as we aim to secure our first league win since the start of November.

Williams is aiming for Barnsley to take the positives from this defeat against Bournemouth and use them as a platform to build on when the Bluebirds visit Oakwell.

“We’ve got to take a lot of confidence from the game – they’re a very good team; they should be in the Premier League,” asserted the 22-year-old.

“We’re a Championship team and their wage bill is way bigger than ours, but we’ve fought hard and could have got a point and, on another day three points. We haven’t got anything and it’s tough, but the belief is still there and we’re confident for Wednesday.”
