CARLTON MORRIS ON NOTTINGHAM FOREST CLASH

2 January 2022

Carlton Morris gave his thoughts ahead of our upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest.

ON BLACKBURN ROVERS DEFEAT
“Going to a top side in the Championship at this time of year is never easy, but the lads showed a fighting spirit after we went one down, and I think that’s an important note to take away.

“The gaffer made some good points after the game as well about a few of the things we’ve been working on since he came in, and we’re starting to show rewards; we feel more comfortable in our structure, now, and offer more of a threat going forward.

“I think we need to take these things and try to take the positives, at the moment. It’s an important time for us as a squad to take the positives out of games.”

ON FINDING A BALANCE
“It’s about finding a balance between defence and attack and focusing on being solid in both aspects at the same time. As soon as that clicks, I think we’ll see the results and it’s what we as a squad are working really hard towards.

“It’s not something that everyone sees behind closed doors, but we’re working our socks off with the boss to get behind what he and Ferran are trying to get through to us.

“Slowly but surely, we are improving, but it’s about finding the balance between being offensively sound and defensively solid, as well.”

ON TEAM SPIRIT
“It is an ominous look when you take into account the table, but it’s long season; we’ve got a long way to go and there’s no creakiness within the dressing room, no groups splitting off moaning and whinging.

“There’s a lot of togetherness still, and I’ve said it before that I wouldn’t bet against us going on a little run – that’s all it takes in the Championship.

“As a squad, I think we showed last year that we’re very capable of doing that; we’ve got good quality and as soon as we find a balance between the two crucial things in the game and start being sound in both boxes, we’ll start hitting our stride.”

ON PERSONAL PERFORMANCES
“I think I’m coming back to myself now. It’s never easy when you’re coming back from injury to get back up to scratch and up to 100% of your full self.

“But I’m definitely getting there now; it’s about doing my stuff, being professional and making sure everything around my knees is sound by doing my gym work and working hard in training.

“I’m feeling in a really good place at the moment and want good things to come, because I really do have that faith that results will come.”

ON PRESSURE TO SCORE GOALS
“In those situations, you either shy away from the responsibility or you thrive under it, and I always like to think that I’m one of those that thrives under it. I’m excited for Forest to go out there and hopefully score another one or two, and the same in the next game after that.

“It’s always my mindset, not just to score one but to do everything I can to score, assist and create opportunities going forward.”

ON NOTTINGHAM FOREST
“I think it’s definitely a game to get up for and we need to kick-off the New Year well and take that confidence into January and, hopefully, have a solid month.”
