After scoring the goal that secured passage through to the Emirates FA Cup fourth round, Carlton Morris spoke of the magic of this special competition as we edged past Barrow AFC in an enthralling 5-4 classic after extra-time.
The Sky Bet League Two outfit put in a typically spirited performance despite being reduced to 10-men and forced an additional 30 minutes in a breathless finale at Oakwell which saw our visitors equalise twice after the Reds continued to edge ahead.
However, our powerful forward scored the decisive goal late in the first period of extra-time to settle an incredible match on Saturday afternoon.
“In my experience in the FA Cup, there’s always the potential for that FA Cup magic sort of thing,” discussed Morris. “They’ve scored a couple of high-quality goals and that sort of sums it up, really.
“I’ve had it before in my career where the team you wouldn’t expect to win score worldies that are the best goals they’ve scored and sometimes it happens like that, but what a spectacle.”
It’s four goals in five games now for Morris, who struck against Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers prior to his brace against Barrow at the weekend.
The 26-year-old is hitting vein of form similar to that of last season, where he struck seven times after joining the Reds from Norwich City in January.
Having return from injury towards the end of November, he is pleased with his recent performances and is keen for the opportunities to keep falling his way.
“The gaffer just said to go on and have an impact, and that’s when the game started getting a bit crazy,” admitted Morris. “I’m thankful that the ball came my way, and I had half a chance to put them away.”
