Reds striker Devante Cole believes his side need to get back to basics after seeing Barnsley fall to defeat at Forest.
Despite a positive opening 15 minutes or so at the City Ground on Wednesday night, the Reds shot themselves in the foot and our hosts never looked back.
Making a rare appearance in the starting XI, Cole was involved in a few promising situations but Barnsley's defensive frailties were on show again with Forest condemning us to yet another defeat on the road.
"It was obviously very disappointing." The forward admitted, post-match.
"It wasn't good enough, and that starts with us. We can't keep saying the same thing. We have to look at ourselves. It's silly mistakes and the same every week.
"We started well, we're on top and we concede. It was the same at Birmingham.
"It's about getting back to basics for me. We need to defend, then we must improve when we get our own chances."
It's a tough challenge in front of the team, with promotion-chasing Bournemouth next up as we return to Oakwell at the weekend, and Devante is still of the opinion that gaining that first victory under this coaching team will ignite a fire under their survival chances.
"We need that win. It's everything for our confidence. The belief needs to be there. It has to start now. It has to start on Saturday.
"If we can get that first win, I think we'll push on with renewed belief in the team."
