BASSI JOINS THE REDS

31 January 2022

Barnsley Football Club can confirm the signing of former Morocco youth international, Amine Bassi.

The 24-year-old joins the Reds on loan from Ligue 1 side, FC Metz, until the end of the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign, subject to VISA approval.

Born in the north-western suburbs of Paris, Bassi began his professional career with French outfit, AS Nancy, in 2017, and went on to make 120 appearances, scoring on 26 occasions. In the summer of 2021, the attacking midfielder moved north and into the French top flight joining FC Metz.

Amine will now immediately join up with the first team squad here at Oakwell, ahead of Wednesday night’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Cardiff City.

Barnsley FC’s head coach, Poya Asbaghi, said: “Amine is a talented player who we hope will make an instant impact. He can play in a number of positions across the forward line, which is a significant asset. He brings with him a strong desire to improve whilst also strengthening our existing group.

“Importantly, Amine is also a technical player and someone who can play a killer pass. As a Club, we will do our upmost to welcome him in and provide a platform for him to hit the ground running.”

Having put pen to paper at Oakwell, Bassi added: This will be a new, challenging experience and I’m very happy to be part of this club. I like to think of myself as an offensive player; I like to score and to make other players score, so what you can expect from me is I will try to be incisive in games.

“The thing I can say is that I will try my very best, but particularly in the challenge that we have of staying up. So, I think the fans will be happy to cheer for me.”

All at Barnsley FC would like to welcome Amine to Oakwell!
