CALLUM STYLES ON BORO CLASH

24 February 2022

Callum Styles spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Middlesbrough this weekend.

ON HULL CITY WIN
“It was a very big win. I thought we played very well – one of the best first halves I can remember – and we did the business in the first half and saw it through to the end of the game.

“The belief has always been there and the performances for the majority of the games have been there in the last couple of weeks, for sure. It’s just against Hull, the result matched the performance, and it’s just about doing that in the upcoming games and keeping the performance really high and getting the result to match it.”

ON GOAL AT HULL
“It was just more relief to put us into the lead because the points are vital at the minute. It was just a good feeling to kind of tip the ship in our favour and help us see it out.

“It was very well worked; I think Claudio won the ball and Carlton got played in, and I’ve got in the box where you should score goals and got the goal.

“I’m hoping they start tumbling in now. It’s just good for the team and myself to keep scoring.”

ON VERSATILITY
“It’s good. It’s good to have that diversity for myself and my profile, and it’s good for the team where some players have been injured in certain positions, I’ve moved into that position to help the team. Off the back of that, lately, we’ve been winning.

“So, it feels to me like it’s all been worth it in the bigger picture.”

ON PAST EXPERIENCE
“I’d say the biggest thing was probably the togetherness, and the togetherness and belief we created amongst us. It was just a ‘we’ve got nothing to lose’ kind of feeling and we went out there and played our way, and we got the wins.

“So, we’ve just got to focus game by game and get the wins game by game and build up points for ourselves.”

ON ATTACKING THREAT
“In the last couple of games, apart from Coventry, we’ve created a lot of chances, but obviously, we haven’t converted them into goals. Against Hull, we converted two into goals and had some really good chances from some other players.

“So, it’s bringing that confidence and belief that we can score against anyone into every game.”

ON BUILDING MOMENTUM
“We need to win, ultimately, a lot of our games. So, it’s just about focusing on getting a win in each game and the next game against Middlesbrough on Saturday is vital to get three points, and that’s our goal.

“We’ll fight for 90 plus minutes to get the three points.”

ON MIDDLESBROUGH CHALLENGE
“I expect them to be strong; they’ve had good form lately, but so have we – two wins in the last three. We’re back at Oakwell and have our fans behind us, so hopefully we can create an atmosphere where we can bully them and get the three points from the game.”
