QUINA ARRIVES ON DEADLINE DAY

1 February 2022

Barnsley Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Domingos Quina on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The former Portugal under-21 international spent the start of the campaign on loan with Sky Bet Championship league leaders, Fulham.

Operating predominantly as an attacking playmaker, Quina spent time in a number of prestigious academies, before securing a move to West Ham United in 2016, going on to make his first team debut aged just 16 in the UEFA Europa League.

Domingos later experienced Premier League action following a move to Watford. At Vicarage Road, he featured eight times during the 2018/19 season, scoring his first top flight goal against Cardiff City and becoming the club’s youngest ever Premier League goal scorer.

After 37 appearances for the Hornets and a brief spell in La Liga with Spanish side Granada, the forward was back in the capital, linking up with Marco Silva at Craven Cottage.

Speaking on his second deadline day signing, Reds Head Coach, Poya Asbaghi said: “We are happy to see Domingos join the Club until the end of the season. He is a decorated youth international and we are excited to see him show his talent in a Barnsley shirt.

“This signing provides us with further options in an offensive sense and I hope he proves to be an asset between now and the season’s conclusion in May.”

Quina, who has won both the Under-17 and Under-19 European Championship with Portugal, will immediately join the first team squad ahead of Wednesday’s Championship fixture against Cardiff.

The forward added: “I’ve missed being on the pitch and playing football. This is the perfect opportunity for me to come and play and help the team get back to where they should be, so I am really excited and can’t wait to get started.

“I see myself as an attacking player. I try to run forward and be positive with the ball. I like to dribble and have a shot, but I’ll also work hard and support the team.”

Everyone at Oakwell would like to welcome Domingos to Barnsley FC.
