CLAUDIO GOMES POST-QPR

13 February 2022

Speaking after our fine 1-0 win at home to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon, Claudio Gomes admits it was an ‘amazing feeling’ to finally pick up three points again.

The Reds have put in some decent displays over the past few weeks but had little to show for their endeavours until promotion hopefuls QPR came unstuck at Oakwell thanks to Domingos Quina’s second half cracker.

“The feeling is amazing, and it was a tough time,” said Gomes. “I think now we can just breath; players, staff, fans – everyone. It’s an amazing feeling.

“We played good in the last games, but the results weren’t good. We just kept trying to keep going, like we did before, and now we’ve won this game and we just have to believe in ourselves and keep going.”

Our next assignment is a tricky trip to Coventry City, who are enjoying a productive campaign and currently sit 12th in the Sky Bet Championship following their 3-2 victory at Reading this weekend – a result that actually helps Barnsley.

Gomes says the Reds can’t afford to get ahead of themselves, insisting they need to continue working hard on the training ground ahead of our clash with the Sky Blues in order to achieve another positive outcome.

“I think now the confidence is good – I don’t want to say too high because we’ve been in a tough time,”continued the Frenchman. “Yes, we won this game, but we have to stay humble and keep going and fighting because this was an amazing feeling.

“We’re going to come back next week, work hard and try to win again. We’ll work hard in training and, hopefully, we can get the win.”
